War Memorial Parking Alert for Thursday, Aug. 31

War Memorial Parking will be CLOSED to UAMS Employees and Students on Thursday, Aug. 31, due to the scheduled Arkansas Razorback game that evening.

WARNING: Vehicles parked on the War Memorial lot on Thursday, Aug. 31, could be towed by the War Memorial Stadium Commission.

Employee parking will be available at Ricks Armory and other designated areas on campus. Ray Winder Field will not be open to employee parking.

Employees who work on the east side of campus (east of the Hospital and Central Building) should go to Jack Stephens Drive from Seventh Street, and parking ambassadors will be onsite to direct you to open parking. Employees who work in the Hospital, Central Building and other areas on the west side of campus should first head to Rick’s Armory. From there, parking ambassadors will assist you in locating a parking spot.

Classes that day will dismiss at noon. Student parking ONLY will be available at Ray Winder. Ray Winder will be closed to incoming traffic at 10 a.m., and all students should be off the lot prior to 1 p.m.

We encourage students and employees to carpool to campus if possible.

While both Ray Winder and Ricks Armory will be serviced by UAMS shuttles, there could be delays due to high traffic volume. Arrive early and prepare for a longer than normal commute to and from campus. You also may want to want to walk to your vehicle to expedite your commute.

If you are unable to walk because of a disability and you do not have a paid parking spot, please contact Parking Operations at 501-526-7275 for assistance.

UAMS Parking Ambassadors will be on campus to provide assistance with parking and direct employees to available parking. UAMS Police will assist with traffic control and parking.

When arriving and departing from campus, please utilize traffic signals when possible, make right turns and avoid crossing traffic. As always, please be attentive and mindful of pedestrian traffic in the area.

There will be road closures on Thursday. Sixth Street between Cedar and Pine streets will be closed all day. Starting at 1 p.m., UAMS Police will put up blockades at Capital and Cedar streets, Seventh Street and Hooper Drive, Seventh and Palm streets and Seventh and Monroe streets. This will ensure that game day traffic is averted from the main part of campus, with minimal disruption to patients, visitors and employees.

We expect that traffic will be heavy on Markham, Fair Park and Interstate 630 after 1 p.m. We also expect that traffic heading west will extremely backed up that afternoon, so employees and students may want to head east out of UAMS and take alternate routes home.

Please see Parking Operations Website for additional information.  If you have questions about parking and traffic issues on Aug. 31, please contact Parking Operations at 501-526-7275 or the UAMS Police Department at 501-686-7777.
