The successful candidate will be expected to lead successful change across the first 18-24 months, in the following areas:

  • Provide vision, intellectual leadership, coordination, and strategic planning for the continued development and implementation of an institution-wide framework along with efforts to ensure diversity, inclusion, equity, and respect for all students, employees, alumni, patients, partners and visitors.
    • Develop, in conjunction with all stakeholders, a broad and inclusive definition of diversity for UAMS;
    • Reduce silos among current diversity initiatives and serve as a point person for all diversity initiatives;
    • Assess the current organizational structure of the Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and make recommendations based on best practices.
  • Develop metrics to inform strategic planning/decision-making and to ensure accountability in tracking and monitoring diversity and inclusion initiatives.
    • Conduct a thorough assessment of diversity, inclusion and cultural competency work that has been done to date;
    • Establish analytics-based dashboards and measures of success to benchmark and communicate successes, as well as areas that require remedy.
  • Develop and implement a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan for UAMS that aligns diversity, equity and inclusion objectives with the mission and strategic plan (a new plan is currently being developed).
    • Collaborate with all college admissions offices to attract and retain students of diverse backgrounds;
    • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure diversity, inclusion, and equity are addressed at hiring, performance review, promotion and retention;
    • Collaborate with all departments to identify strategies to address institutional opportunities related to diversity, inclusion, and equity, including areas of best practice for ensuring a diverse workforce, employee promotion opportunities, training, compensation equity, employee/student attrition/retention, employee morale, and institution climate.
  • Serve as a champion and advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
    • Be a vocal advocate at the cabinet level for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts;
    • Serve as the public face for diversity, equity and inclusion within UAMS and the community.
