The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Graduate School is home to many programs leading to doctoral and master’s degrees in addition to graduate certificates. UAMS aims to provide an opportunity for the development of the intellectual potential of individuals and to enhance the university’s academic integrity.
We are particularly excited about the Graduate Program in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences, which offers students the opportunity to pursue Ph.D. training in a wide range of disciplines while providing a foundation in the basic sciences. After completing a common core curriculum, students can select from seven different tracks for further study:
- Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Cancer Biology
- Cell Biology and Physiology
- Microbiology and Immunology
- Neuroscience
- Pathobiology
- Pharmacology, Toxicology and Experimental Therapeutics
The Graduate School also offers degrees in these areas:
- Biomedical Informatics
- Clinical Nutrition
- Clinical and Translation Sciences
- Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Epidemiology
- Health Promotion and Prevention Research
- Health Systems and Services Research
- Nursing Science
- Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Pharmaceutical Sciences: Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy Track
Additionally, UAMS offers degrees in Bioinformatics, in a joint program hosted by UA Little Rock.
Certificates are offered in Clinical and Translation Sciences, Implementation Science, Regulatory Sciences, and Health Sciences Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program.
Our Graduate School works closely with the colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Professions and Public Health, from which our graduate faculty is comprised.
Strong collaborations exist with UAMS interdisciplinary institutes including the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, Psychiatric Research Institute, Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute, Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neuroscience Institute, Translational Research Institute, Institute for Community Health Innovation, Institute for Digital Health & Innovation, and multiple clinical centers here at UAMS.
These collaborations add strength to our graduate programs in the basic and clinical sciences and create a remarkable network of opportunities for our 235 graduate students.
The Graduate School is one of the most exciting academic environments in Arkansas and the home of some of the most innovative biomedical research in the nation.
