IT Project Requests
To ask Information Technology to create or modify a product or service, complete a New Project Request form in ServiceNow.
We define projects as temporary work efforts with a clear beginning and end. Each New Project Request goes through an assessment to determine its viability. If needed, requests then go to the appropriate IT governance committee, which decides their priority and determines the availability of resources.
ServiceNow sends emails to the people who submit New Project Requests to keep them updated on every step of the governance, or review and approval, process.
Operational or Process Improvement Projects
Operational projects launch new programs or services, such as opening a new clinical unit. For example, the PMO provided project management services for the operation of a new child development center.
In process improvement projects, PMO project managers review processes and suggest improvements to workflows that increase efficiency and reduce errors. They can also help to develop standard operating procedures and new workflows for clinics or other areas at UAMS.
Our Process Improvement Methodologies
The PMO’s UAMS customers often ask us to review processes in clinics or other areas and offer suggestions for improvements. Our project managers use two well-known project management methodologies to help their customers improve processes:
- The Lean project management approach improves efficiency to reduce waste and help organizations deliver maximum value while minimizing costs and effort
- The Six Sigma approach improves the quality of processes by identifying and eliminating errors or variables. The goal is to eventually reach near-perfect performance
